Auroville was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfasse. The architect Roger Anger developed its city plan. It is modeled on a cosmic spiral nebula. The land made available to Auroville was a dry plateau. A forest has been planted since the early years. There is a beautiful, slow documentary about it (Ever Slow Green (2020) – S.O.S. from Auroville (now), 2021.)
Now I have spent my first night sleeping in this forest. The Auroville Center Guest House is a magical place. There are no glass windows, only mosquito nets. You feel as though you are almost sleeping outside, surrounded by countless bird voices. This forest seems to have achieved enormous biodiversity.
It all feels a little like a paradise. Quiet, concentration, meditation—I can imagine them very well here. I am very curious about the many projects underway here, which I already heard people discussing yesterday in the common room.
